Viral Video Marketing – What We Can Learn From Super Bowl Commercials.

Well, it is almost Super Bowl Sunday and many people are just as excited to watch the commercials aired, as they are the actual game.  Super Bowl ads are probably outside your marketing budget since, the estimated price for a 30 second spot, that reaches about 11 million viewers, is $3.5 million.

I know the Super Bowl will be on at my house, although being in Canada, we miss out on many of the high budget American ads. So what do we do? We search out the advertisements and end up watching them on the internet.

My favorite commercial from last year is Volkswagen’s The Force.

Improve Your Social Media Marketing With These 3 Quick Tips

Social Media TipsSo you have set up a Facebook page, Twitter account or have a profile on linkedin… now what? If you are wondering what you should or shouldn’t be posting on your social media accounts, here are some quick tips.

Share Information

Social media isn’t just about entertainment.  People are looking for information and sharing how-to’s, did you knows, or other tips or tricks is a great way to share information without resorting to those boring ineffective links to your products and services.

For example as a web designer – rather than posting something like

“Do you need a website redesign?”  (With a link to my website services)

maybe I could post

“Is the font on your website too small? Did you know that 85% of website visitors use a screen resolution higher than 1024 x 768.” (With a link to my web site services)

The second post is much more interesting and can stimulate a conversation.

Why do some businesses offer points, stamps or every tenth coffee for free?

Blog More, Tweet More, Email More, Facebook Less

I just attended a great Webinar by Dan Zarrella and Hub Spot on the “The Science of Timing” (Knowing when and how to focus your social media marketing efforts to get the best response.)  Dan identified the best times to send your tweets or post your blogs, update your facebook page and send your email campaigns.

5 Steps to Creating a Website That Sells!

Creating an effective web site that sells your products or services will be less daunting if you follow these simple steps:

1. Invest in your Website Copy.

If you want to create a web site that sells then your first investment should be in your web site content.  Your web site is a marketing tool and your web site content should reflect this.  If possible, consider hiring a professional copywriter to produce your web content. If you are writing your own content, remember to appeal to the emotions of your web site visitors.  Always highlight the benefits of your products or services and show what value added features your product or services offer.  Remember to use terminology the general public will understand; don’t get caught up using industry jargon and abbreviations. A well written web site should entice sales and improve your search engine rankings.

The Power of Social Media: The Death of a Pop Icon, Election Corruption & Don’t Eat the Pizza!

Social networking sites have become a source of instant, uncensored, free exchange of information and the impact this has had on pop culture, politics and businesses practices and marketing strategies is incredible.

The news of Michael Jackson’s cardiac arrest and ensuing death spread across the web like a wild fire.   Without a doubt, Michael’s death had a huge global interest because of its impact on pop culture and its general interest appeal. It has been reported that over 30% of total Tweet volume in the hours during and after Michael’s death were related to the event and apparently Facebook, with its larger following, actually topped Twitters figures.  The remarkable thing is this was all happening in real-time and before most of the major news outlets were reporting the occurrences.  We knew when Michael was rushed to hospital, we then knew it was a possible cardiac arrest and then we were sadly aware that he had, indeed, passed away.    But there are equally significant examples of the power of social media and how they can have an impact in politics and economics.

Don’t Make this Costly Mistake in your Next Email Marketing Campaign

laptopI received an email the other day from a company [name withheld to protect the guilty!] that provides online booking software for spas. This is a great functionality to add to a website and I have recommended them to more than one web design client in the past. My bone of contention wasn’t with the actual business but rather, with the email I received.  The email was of a promotional nature and had a great special for the month of May.   Fantastic!  I actually thought about sharing the details on Twitter until I tried to find a link on the email to their website.  There was not one active link to their website. That meant if I really wanted to share the site I would have had to type in the url or Google it.   Guess what? I couldn’t be bothered.  I was too busy and moved on to the next email in my very full inbox.
