Facebook just released new share/connect functionality in the form of Send Button. The send button enables your site visitors to send your content directly to their friends as a private message. Unlike the share and like buttons, which post to a users wall, the send message may be more effective as it targets individuals or Groups. Presumably the recipients would have more interest in the content, otherwise why would someone send directly to them?

Finally Get Rid of Those Crazy Long Facebook Page URL’s
In June 2009, Facebook introduced vanity URL’s (usernames) also called short urls or personalized URL’s for both your individual profile and for fan pages. When facebook usernames were first released there was a lot of promotion about the change and people rushed to get their desired usernames. Almost two years later, I am coming across many businesses and individuals who haven’t set up their vanity name. I find that many small business owners who are just developing their presence on Facebook don’t know about usernames or how to go about setting one up.

Do you use Flickr to store and organize your photos? Well, sharing these photos just got a whole lot easier.
Previously you were only able to share your Flickr images with friends and family using email, but last week Flickr updated their share function to include popular social media. With this new functionality, you can now share your photostreams, sets, and groups on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Blogger, Worpress.com.

Blog More, Tweet More, Email More, Facebook Less

I just attended a great Webinar by Dan Zarrella and Hub Spot on the “The Science of Timing” (Knowing when and how to focus your social media marketing efforts to get the best response.) Dan identified the best times to send your tweets or post your blogs, update your facebook page and send your email campaigns.
A few points really stood out for me that are worth mentioning:

Free Social Networking Icons
Posted by: Tanya on June 30th, 2009
I was feeling inspired and took a few minutes to come up with some neat social networking icons/badges. The set comes in two sizes (64×64 and 48×48) includes icons for MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and a RSS feed. Looking for another social networking icon to match? Just let me know and when I have a couple minutes to whip one up, I will add it.
Feel free to download these free social networking icons and use them on your website or blog. An acknowledgment is not necessary but is appreciated!

The Power of Social Media: The Death of a Pop Icon, Election Corruption & Don’t Eat the Pizza!
Posted by: Tanya on June 28th, 2009
Social networking sites have become a source of instant, uncensored, free exchange of information and the impact this has had on pop culture, politics and businesses practices and marketing strategies is incredible.
The news of Michael Jackson’s cardiac arrest and ensuing death spread across the web like a wild fire. Without a doubt, Michael’s death had a huge global interest because of its impact on pop culture and its general interest appeal. It has been reported that over 30% of total Tweet volume in the hours during and after Michael’s death were related to the event and apparently Facebook, with its larger following, actually topped Twitters figures. The remarkable thing is this was all happening in real-time and before most of the major news outlets were reporting the occurrences. We knew when Michael was rushed to hospital, we then knew it was a possible cardiac arrest and then we were sadly aware that he had, indeed, passed away. But there are equally significant examples of the power of social media and how they can have an impact in politics and economics.
